Description

Company background

TLC Live is one of the longest-established online tuition providers in the UK, supporting children and young people aged 6–16 since 2012. We work in partnership with over 500 schools and more than half of the local authorities in England, providing high-quality online learning to support statutory young people who may be experiencing EBSA or attachment difficulties, Alternative Provision packages, and personalised interventions.

We specialise in delivering English, Maths, Science, Humanities (Other subjects are available) and ESOL, along with Functional Skills and a wide range of PSHE and vocational options. Our service is designed to help students who require a more flexible, personalised approach to learning—often due to challenges in mainstream education, medical needs, SEND, or care placements. Lessons can be accessed from school, at home, or any suitable location, allowing students to progress at their own pace in a safe, comfortable environment.

Our curriculum offer

We provide tuition across Key Stages 1 to 4, as well as Functional Skills and post-16 pathways. All major UK exam boards are supported. Our teaching staff are UK-qualified subject specialists with enhanced DBS checks. Every lesson is delivered live in a secure virtual classroom, recorded for safeguarding and quality assurance, and backed by structured planning and feedback.

How Our Lessons Work

Each student is taught individually in their own secure online classroom as part of a 3:1 teacher ratio model. While lessons run concurrently, there is no peer interaction—ensuring focused, one-to-one attention. Students will focus on their own skill gaps within the same session, allowing flexibility in age, ability, and curriculum.

Lessons are web-based—requiring no downloads—and can be accessed using any modern device (excluding tablets and phones). We recommend the use of headsets to help with focus and communication. All sessions are monitored centrally for safeguarding, and technical support is readily available.

Following each session, schools and referring professionals receive:

  • Individual lesson feedback and next steps
  • Daily attendance records
  • Ongoing progress tracking
  • Pupil feedback on engagement and enjoyment

Booking and flexibility

TLC Live understands the changing needs of students in AP and LA care. We do not require contracts—schools and local authorities only pay for delivered sessions. Lessons can begin within 36 hours of a completed referral, and we offer flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and school holidays.

Cancellations or rearrangements can be made with 24 hours’ notice. We design every programme around the student’s timetable, educational needs, and care context.

Measuring Impact

We provide measurable outcomes aligned with LA priorities and AP commissioning criteria:

  • •Improved Engagement and Academic Outcomes: Learners can undertake baseline assessment (Maths, English & Science). Individualised learning pathways target key gaps in core subjects. Regular formative assessment informs planning and ensures rapid progress.
  • Support for Students with BESD or SEMH Needs: One-to-one teaching fosters trust, consistency, and positive behaviour reinforcement. Tutors are trained in managing emotional dysregulation and encouraging resilience.
  • Attendance Improvement: Our remote model removes common attendance barriers and adapts to each student’s situation—improving educational access for those with complex needs.
  • Transition and Reintegration: For those moving into, between, or out of AP settings, our service provides continuity of education, tailored support, and structured academic progression and we can support with reintegration with our 4-step reintegration process.
  • Clear Progression Pathways: From early catch-up to GCSE readiness or vocational alternatives, we support reintegration into mainstream, successful post-16 transitions, or further education entry.

How we work with Local Authorities

  • Collaborative Delivery: A designated account manager ensures coordination between TLC LIVE, Local Authority professionals, schools, and families.
  • Transparent Monitoring: Our secure online portal provides access to lesson plans, attendance, tutor feedback, and pupil engagement—supporting EHCP reviews, PEPs, and AP panel decision-making.
  • Quality Assurance: Lessons are reviewed regularly. Tutors receive ongoing CPD and safeguarding updates. We align provision to National Curriculum and statutory guidance.
  • Flexible, Scalable Provision: Whether you need a single placement or multiple packages across your LA, we adapt our offer to meet commissioning needs.
