Taunton’s A3065 Silk Mills Road is set for major resurfacing works next week starting Tuesday, 9 May.

Somerset Council’s highway maintenance team will be carrying out the work south of the Silk Mills Roundabout to just past the junction of Netherclay, Bishops Hull – a distance of 1.1km.

Due to the traffic sensitive nature of the route the scheme will be delivered in stages working south along the route during evenings and overnight from 9 May until Friday 26 May to minimise disruption.

That means a closure will be in place from 6.30pm until 6am the following day throughout the works, excluding weekends. However, the closure zone will vary according to where the team is working.

Residents and businesses will be granted access throughout and the Park and Ride service will continue to run throughout the evening.

Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset County Council’s Executive Lead Member for Transport and Digital said:

“It’s important we get this work done – I’ve been aware of the poor condition of the surface for some time. “There’s no easy time to deliver this, but working at night will minimise disruption.

“Of course we understand there will be an impact in the immediate area, but the team will ensure access for residents and I’m pleased that we have worked with the contractors to ensure the Park and Ride service continues throughout the evening while the works are being delivered.”
