Business and Landowner Information

The local business community has been identified as one of the key beneficiaries of the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier Scheme. By reducing the impacts of tidal flooding, the Scheme aims to increase businesses’ resilience and long-term viability.

The Bridgwater Tidal Barrier Scheme aims to do this in various ways.

  • Safeguarding physical assets (such as buildings, machinery and equipment) from flooding and water damage.
  • Ensuring business continuity, by reducing the risk of flood damage,
  • Better protection of inventory and stock as floodwater can cause extensive damage to stored materials and stock. This can lead to significant financial losses.
  • Supporting the mitigation of losses, as floods can cause businesses to incur significant costs, including repairs, loss of revenue and increased insurance premiums.
  • Securing key infrastructure in the area with less disruption from flooding impacts.

Our contractors on the Scheme also have contractual obligations to help us optimise our use of local resources while the Scheme is being built.

There will also be landowners operating businesses who may be impacted by the Scheme and who will already receive communications from the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier Scheme lands team.

In relation to landowners and land users, we have ongoing communications. If you are a landowner or land user who may be affected by the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier Scheme and are not in touch with us already, please email bridgwater.barrier@environment-agency.gov.uk
