Motability Scheme
The Motability scheme helps disabled people get a car, scooter or powered wheelchair. You use your mobility benefit to lease it.
You can apply if you get one of these and have at least 12 months left on your award:
- Higher rate mobility part of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Higher rate mobility part of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement
You do not need to drive. You can name up to two drivers. A parent or carer can apply for a child aged 3 or over.
Find full details on the Motability Scheme website.
Mobility equipment
The NHS has information about mobility equipment, wheelchairs and scooters.
Some charities can help you get equipment not provided by the NHS. This can include:
- powered, manual or sports wheelchairs
- walkers and trikes
- scooters
- specialist car seats
You can also hire a scooter through the Shop Mobility scheme. You can find out about all-terrain mobility scooters and accessible routes on our making nature more accessible page.
