When and how much to pay

You can pay your Council Tax in 10 monthly payments between April and January.

You can also ask to pay your bill over 12 months between April and March.

Your payment must reach us by the first day of the month it is due, unless you pay by Direct Debit.

We will tell you the amounts you need to pay at the bottom of your bill. If you find it difficult to pay by the dates shown on your bill or want to check the amount you need to pay, please contact us.

Ways to pay

Direct Debit

Paying by Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay your bill. It saves you time and effort. You can cancel at any time and are protected by the Direct Debit guarantee.

Change to Direct Debit Collection Dates  

We are updating our Direct Debit collection schedule. From 1 April, Council Tax Direct Debits will be taken on one of the following dates each month: 1st, 8th, 15th or 25th

If you already pay by Direct Debit, your payment date will automatically shift to the next closest new date. Don’t worry – your Direct Debit will not be taken any earlier than usual. You can confirm your new date on your next bill notice.

 Examples 

  • If your current Direct Debit date is 7th, it will move to the 8th.
  • If your current date is 20th, it will move to the 25th.
  • If your Direct Debit is already set to one of the new dates (1st, 8th, 15th or 25th), it will remain unchanged.

Online

You can pay online using a Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card.

Internet, phone banking or standing order

Use your own internet banking service to set up regular payments to us. Quote the account number shown on your bill. Our bank details are:

At the Post Office

Please note, we will no longer be issuing new Post Office Payment Cards. You can keep using your current payment card until April 2026. Your next bill (usually sent in March 2026) will have a barcode you can use to pay at the Post Office or PayPoint. Find your nearest PayPoint.
