The role of a Financial Modeller at Somerset Council plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of public services. Their primary responsibility is to create detailed financial models that help forecast future financial performance, assess the impact of various financial decisions, and support strategic planning.

These models are used to analyse different scenarios, such as changes in funding, policy adjustments, or economic fluctuations, and their potential impact on the Somerset Council budget and financial position. By doing so, this role will provide valuable insights that aid in making informed decisions, optimising resource allocation, and achieving the financial goals.

 

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

The role will require a recognised full accountancy qualification such as Cipfa, ACCA, ACA, CIMA etc.

Additionally, experience in financial modelling, data analysis, and strategic planning is crucial. Typically, candidates should have relevant experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably within the public sector or local government. This experience helps them understand the unique financial challenges and opportunities faced by local government, enabling them to create accurate and reliable financial models.
