Spring Bank Holiday on Monday 27 May means all rubbish and recycling collections will be one day later that week, including Friday collections taking place on Saturday 1 June.
Recycling and rubbish collection days are changing for some households in Mendip and South Somerset. Read about the changes and how they may affect you.

Introduction

It is sometimes necessary to close a public right of way temporarily for development, forestry operations or maintenance of utilities. Wherever possible an alternative route should be provided.

The length of temporary closures varies from 5 days to a maximum of 6 months.

Closure notices are advertised in newspapers and copies of the notice and a map are posted on site.

You can also view closure notices on our Rights of Way – Closures page.

Applying

Anyone can apply to temporarily close a public right of way although it is usually utility companies and developers.

You must fill in a Temporary Closure Application Form (PDF 145KB) to apply for this.

Current cost, which is subject to change by the administration and legislative changes, typically includes costs for administration and advertisement.

The fee must be paid in advance by cheque, made payable to Somerset Council.

Timescales vary for the different types of closure. For full details please contact us.

We will process your application and may contact you if we need more information. We will tell you the date the temporary closure becomes active.
