It is sometimes necessary to close a public right of way temporarily. This may be due to development work, forestry operations or utility maintenance. Where possible, provide an alternative route.

Applying for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order
Any member of the public, company or contractor can apply to temporarily close a public right of way for works or safety reasons.
Applicants must:
- Give 3 months’ notice of the required restriction; applications received outside of the standard 3 month notice period may not be processed by the requested date and will incur an additional cost
- Pay the required fee
- Provide, erect, maintain and remove diversion signs
- Inform all interested parties known to be directly affected by the proposed prohibition, including any frontages on the public right of way concerned and those identified by the Council
- Provide a plan of the closure and any alternative route and signing schedule with the application
- Provide a name and contact number to be included on the public notice so that enquiries reach the right place.
