Changing Lives Through Horses

The British Horse Society (BHS) runs a programme called Changing Lives Through Horses. It helps children and young people learn new skills and feel more confident, all while working with horses.

When and who it is for

  • The programme runs in small groups from Tuesday to Thursday, 9.30am to 2.30pm
  • Children aged 5 to 15 can come twice a week if they:
    • don’t go to school full-time
    • have been excluded from school
    • or have special educational needs or disabilities (SEND)
  • Young people aged 16 to 25 can come up to three times a week if they:
    • are not in school, college, or work (this is called NEET)
    • have SEND
    • or need help getting ready for more learning or a job

What you will learn

You can earn certificates and even professional qualifications. The course helps you:

  • get back into learning or training
  • feel more confident and proud of yourself
  • and get ready to be part of the working world

Other important information

  • You don’t need to have worked with horses before
  • If you want to ride, there’s a weight limit of 13 stone (about 82.5 kg)
  • There are non-riding options too
