Description

Oak & Grit is a specialist Forest School Alternative Provision based in West Somerset, with particular expertise in supporting primary needs relating to social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. We providing high-quality educational support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Our provision offers a safe, nurturing and highly structured learning environment where children and young people who may struggle to engage in mainstream education can develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships. Through an interactive curriculum using practical outdoor experiences, we enable children and young people to build meaningful relationships with adults, develop confidence and self esteem and feel more able and resilient to tackle the next phase of their education journey.

As a Forest School, we use the natural environment to promote emotional wellbeing, personal development, creativity and life skills. Children and young people benefit from hands-on activities including woodland management, environmental education, wildlife and practical conservation projects.

Our experienced team is committed to helping children and young people build confidence, improve attendance and engagement, develop independence and prepare for further education, employment or training. We pride ourselves on delivering inclusive, person-centred education that enables every child and young person to realise their potential, regardless of the challenges they have previously experienced in education.

Oak & Grit is a place where children and young people can step away from traditional settings  and learn, explore and grow through the outdoors with muddy boots, fresh air and freedom.

We work closely with local authorities, schools, families and multi-agency professionals to provide bespoke programmes tailored to each learner’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), identified needs and personal goals. Every placement is underpinned by robust safeguarding procedures, trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support, ensuring all children and young people feel safe, respected and able to thrive.
