Description

Provides specialist support and advice to help children in Somerset with SEND enjoy their education, succeed in the schools they attend, and be fully included to achieve good outcomes.

The team of advisory teachers areas of expertise include:

  • Whole school SEND systems and effectiveness
  • SENCo support
  • High quality training for teachers, support staff and governing bodies
  • Advice and guidance when there might be difficulties in school for CLA, children and young people with SEND, children and young people with a social worker and those young people open to YOS
  • Advice and guidance for PLAC

Identification of:

  • Mathematical difficulties
  • Literacy difficulties and dyslexia

The wider team has extensive experience of working in schools as teachers and SENCos and designated teachers, together with additional post graduate qualifications and training in aspects of SEND, Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) alongside trauma informed practice.

Each Advisory Teacher is linked to a group of schools/colleges throughout Somerset. We also have a small post 16 support team working specifically with colleges, training agencies and employers to support Children Looked After.
