How to register to become a Slinky member for Somerton

Slinky is digital in Somerton

This trial is a digital version of the Slinky on-demand transport service, known as Digital Demand Responsive Transport (DDRT), operating throughout Somerton and the surrounding areas shown on the map below.

The ‘on demand’ service is a flexible bus service with no set route, provided for passengers who book in advance.

Absolutely anyone can use this service, as long as you do not have access to a public bus service to make the journey.

Service Update

New destination for Somerton Slinky from 3rd August 2026.

Somerton Slinky will operate a commuter service to Castle Cary train station. This will link both Somerton and Langport to Castle Cary train station giving onward train services to London, Bath, and Bristol Services.

Journeys must be pre-booked.

  • Leaves Langport at 06:30 and Somerton at 06:45 arriving at Castle Cary train station at 07:15
  • Departs Castle Cary at 18:25 arriving in Langport at 19:10 and Somerton at 19:25

Please note this is a trial to evaluate demand.

If you want to travel from the Somerton area to Castle Cary train station at other times, maybe for a day out. You can book the Somerton Slinky to Keinton Mandeville and then use either the 567 or 667 bus service to connect to Castle Cary train station.

How to register to become a Slinky digital member

Following the service going digital, previous Somerton members will need to register for the new service.

Registering is easy, just select one of the following options:

  1. Download the Slinky app by searching Slinky in your smartphone or tablet’s app store and follow registration instructions.
  2. Or, use the Slinky Booking webpage and select sign up.
  3. Or, click on the Slinky App quick start guide 

If you are unable to use option 1 or 2, then you can register by phone on 01823 359 999 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

Booking travel

If using the app or website, bookings can be made all day every day – so no 9am rush to book!

Phone bookings are only available to be made during office hours Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (excluding public holidays).

The service operates from 7am to 7pm (note that concessionary passes are only accepted after 9am).

The minimum booking notice required is 1 hour and can be made up to 2 weeks in advance of travel.

Bookings can be made for a maximum of 4 additional passengers on any trip.

App and website bookings can be prepaid. Onboard accepts either cash, contactless payment (debit or credit card).

Cancellations should be made as soon as reasonably possible. Cancellations less than 1 hour before the journey time will be charged the full fare. Cancellations over 1 hour in advance will have the fare credited to your account.
