Our Adult Social Care Strategy

We want strong, connected communities where people can live safe, healthy, independent lives, with easy access to joined‑up care

Introduction

Our Adult Social Care Strategy 2026–2029 sets out how Somerset Council will work with people, families, carers, communities and partners to deliver our ambitions for adult social care over the next three years.

It is grounded in the Council’s proposed new Vision:

Enabling people in Somerset to live healthy, safe, independent lives within strong communities.

Turning our Vision into action

Our vision reflects the central purpose of adult social care – to promote wellbeing, independence and choice, and to work alongside communities to help people live the lives they want to lead for as long as possible.

This strategy contributes directly to the delivery of the vision by focusing on prevention and early help, providing the right support at the right time and in the right place, developing a supported and skilled workforce, and planning for the future in a way that is sustainable and shaped by local need. Through this strategy, we will strengthen community-based support, work in partnership across health, housing and the voluntary sector, and continue to improve how people experience care and support in Somerset. In doing so, we aim to reduce inequalities, build resilience, and ensure people are supported to stay well, safe and connected in their local communities.
