Better Journey Cards

Better Journey Cards give people with a disability a way of letting a driver know that they may need extra help

Overview

Better Journey Cards help people with a disability tell a driver they may need extra help.

You do not have to use a card. You can choose if it works for you. Many people keep the card in a purse or wallet and show it to the driver when they need help.

Using and getting a card

Disability groups helped design these cards. You can download the First Bus version from their website or ask at a bus station. The cards can be used on any transport.

The card has short messages. For example:

  • “Please be patient I have a hidden disability”
  • “Please face me and speak clearly, I lip read”
  • “Please help me find a seat”.

There are also blank spaces. You can write your own message if you need something different.

Other support

If you are a young person and find it hard to travel on your own, you may be able to get independent travel training.

If you live in Somerset and have a disability or cannot drive for medical reasons, you may be able to get a concessionary bus pass. This can give free or cheaper bus travel at certain times.
