Introduction
Higher education (HE) is learning after age 18. It happens at universities and colleges. It includes degrees, job‑related courses and other qualifications.
Some people go to higher education straight away. Others choose to wait. You can also study for a degree through an apprenticeship. Each course and college has its own entry rules.
Some people take a gap year. They may work, volunteer or travel.
Many students move away to study. This means you manage your own food, money, health and housing. Some students travel each day instead. Some study at local colleges linked to universities in Somerset. Others learn from home using the internet.
EHC Plans do not carry on at university. You need to contact the university to arrange support.

Every university has a learning support service. The team can help if you have a learning difficulty, disability, health condition or language need. Support can include:
