Living more independently
As part of the “What Matters to Me” conversation when moving to adult social care, the needs or wishes of the individual should identify what is important to you. This could include being more independent, being happy where you live, living somewhere else or living with different people. Finding a place to live is important because it can give you the confidence to become more independent. And you can make important decisions so that you can lead a happy life.
You should be encouraged to think about the right housing option for you, by working with your parents carers and the other people who support you to give you the information you need, so that you can understand the options available to you.
Things to consider
What I want and need my home to be like? can be an overwhelming question. Breaking it down into smaller questions can help;
- Is your housing settled and secure?
- When do you need your housing?
- Where do you want to live?
- Do you have any adaptation or space requirements?
- Do you have any support needs?
- If you want to share, do you know who you want to share with?
