Overview
Children, young people, families, education settings, health services, community organisations and Somerset Council all play a part in improving SEND services and support.
We believe the best services are shaped by the people who use them. That is why we work together to understand what is working well, what needs to improve and where we should focus our efforts.
This page explains how we listen, make decisions, improve services and measure the difference we are making.
How improvement happens
Improving SEND services is a shared responsibility.
Children and young people, parent carers, schools, colleges, early years providers, health services, social care teams and community organisations help us understand experiences, identify priorities and shape decisions.
Together we:
- listen to feedback and lived experience
- agree priorities for improvement
- make changes to services and support
- review progress and outcomes
- identify the next areas for improvement
Whether you attend an event, complete a survey, join a participation group or share feedback, your views help shape future improvements.

What difference is it making?
We publish information about the improvements we are making and the impact they are having
This includes examples of changes made because of feedback, progress against our priorities, service performance information and annual reviews of our Local Offer.

Working together for better outcomes
Improving SEND services is an ongoing journey. By working together, listening to each other and learning from experiences, we can continue to improve support for children and young people with SEND and their families across Somerset.
